Yazmila is a mother and micro-entrepreneur. that lives in the community of Pueblo Nuevo in Panama. She has been cultivating and selling agricultural goods such as plantain and cazaba to help her family during the current situation caused by Covid-19.

For the past five months, Panama has been under strict quarantine rules to avoid the increase of Covid-19 cases, which affected the economy and small businesses tremendously.

 

The Business

Yazmila has been living in the community of Pueblo Nuevo, located in the Darien province, for about 18 years. She is a mother of five, a business owner, and a community bank member.

Yazmila, with the help of her husband and kids, manages a farming business in which they cultivate, green plantain and cazaba. Besides that, they also buy other agricultural goods from other community members and take all these products to the city to sell. 

 

Competitive Advantage

-They have their own car and can transport all their good to the city easily
-They are not resellers, most of their products have a fair price because they are the ones that produce them.
-The business has been running for 7 years and a lot of people trust them.

 

 

 

Obstacles

-The prices of the good have gone down due to the current situation
-The quarantine rules didn’t allow them to go to the city to cell
-There’s a lot of competitors
-They don’t produce everything that they sell
